"Wilson's biography Charles Darwin, Victorian Mythmaker (2017) , was criticised by John van Wyhe in New Scientist for confusing Darwin's theory of natural selection with Lamarckism at one point, as well as other scientific, historical and editorial errors. Kathryn Hughes in The Guardian described it as a "cheap attempt to ruffle feathers", with a dubious grasp of science and attempted character assassination. In The Evening Standard, Adrian Woolfson says that "while for the greater part a lucid, elegantly written and thought-provoking social and intellectual history", Wilson's "speculations on evolutionary theory" produce a book that is "fatally flawed, mischievous, and ultimately misleading". Steve Jones, an emeritus of University College London, commented in The Sunday Times: "In the classic mould of the contrarian, he despises anything said by mainstream biology in favour of marginal and sometimes preposterous theories." The geneticist and former editor of Nature, Adam Rutherford, called the book "deranged" and said Wilson "would fail GCSE biology catastrophically." (from Wikipedia).

Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, spine very very slightly faded, not price clipped (£15.00), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy. 334pp. The 'Chronicles of Narnia' made C.S. Lewis one of the most successful and best loved writers of the twentieth century. He also won an enormous following through his religious books 'Mere Christianity', 'The Screwtape Letters', 'Surprised by Joy', books which are still sold in their thousands today. His works of scholarship, above all his 'English Literature in the Sixteenth Century' have achieved classic status. Lewis was a brillant, prolific writer and a deeply complex man, capable of inspiring both great devotion and great hostility. A.N. Wilson charts the progress of the clever child from Ulster to Oxford, where he was a fellow of Magdalen College for the greater part of his adult life. He describes Lewis's unwilling conversion to Christianity, the Oxford circle of his friends known as the Inklings (which included J.R.R.Tolkien and David Cecil) and the genesis of his writing; most intriguingly of the Narnia stories. He explores Lewis's relationship with a much older woman, Janie Moore, which kept him in domestic thrall for thirty years, and his later marriage to a divorced women in defiance of the church.
