Titles include: Wakken Beggar; The Lost Donkey; Snick-Snarls; The Swallowed Sixpence; Lobscouse; A Berrin' Posy, etc. Frontis retains the tissue guard. Vignette to title page is by Ralph Caldecott and the black and white frontis An old chimney corner in Chadderton Fold is by John Houghton Hague appropriately of the Manchester School of Painters. Navy cloth with gilt titles to spine and gilt facsimile signature to the front is very clean and bright. Blind stamped flower design to the back board. slightly softened to spine ends else very neat. Very good copy.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Undated; preface references 1883 as a likely publication date. Blue clothbound without a dustjacket. Fold-out map at rear fep is well preserved and in good repair. Entire interior is mark-free and contains an erratum insert, and tissue guard protecting the excellent frontis plate. Binding is secure and tight. Exterior boards are clean and generally square with very light bumps. Only flaw of book is water damage to bottom edge of front board and bottom one-third of rear board. On the rear board, this includes warping of cloth and bleeding of blue color. No part of the interior is affected by this damage, and the exterior front and spine (including gilt print) is very presentable.
