Unpaginated. 201 b/w plates; 8 color plates; illustrated catalogues of publsher's marks and artist signatures. Footnotes with biographical essays. Fair. Moderate abrasion and tearsalong fron hinge with hinge holding fine, though pulled back. Shallow 5" crease upper corner front wrap with associated rolling creases and stiffness/rippling to first third of volume (latter moisture-related with no discoloration). Central wraps clean and bright. Binding overall strong but stiff with color plates 2 and 3detached,now laid in. Plates clean with nice colors to front plates, though some plates affected by aforementioned stiffness upper corners.Overall a godd STUDY COPY.

Kuniyoshi(1797-1861) was one of the last great masters of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and painting. His subjects included many genres: landscapes, beautiful women, Kabuki actors, cats, and mythical animals. He is known for depictions of the battles of legendary samurai heroes.
