Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. This was the first in the eight book Champion Sports Series set in Clarksville, a Connecticut prep school. A boy whose father's death left the family in a difficult financial position, rescues a girl and wins a scholarship to the prep school. He has to work hard at his studies but is eventually persuaded to go out for the baseball team and becomes a star. Has a nice illustrated blue Dust Jacket with white lettering on the front and the spine. The Dust Jacket has numerous small chips, is in a mylar protector. The book has the normal browning of pages and is in good condition. I have other titles in this series and more than 265 juvenile baseball fiction titles in stock. This is volume 5 in the Champion Sport Stories series. The first three such list Noel Sainsbury Jr. as the author. The final two show Sainsbury's pseudonym of Charles Lawton as the author. A splendid volume for the middle school student or young adult of the era. Clean, tight, firm, moderate darkening at the spine-ends and leading corners. The dust jacket is only fair - wear at the extremities all round. The interior of the dust jacket bears an extensive list of Cupples & Leon publications. Good condition. No looseness, No mustiness, No smoke smell. No names, No other markings. No bookplates, NOT Ex-Library, NOT Remainder-marked. A marvelous 1937 find.
