'In preparing this book, Gered individually proofed and examined 3,500 frames carefully stored in his own personal archive, an experience which he described as being 'like viewing much of my work for the very first time'. In the process he rediscovered images he had long since forgotten, including many rare and unpublished colour pictures which can be found in Mason's Yard to Primrose Hill. (Genesis Publications)'. SIGNED LIMITED EDITION. Small folio, in slipcase. No 1233 of 1750 copies in black quarter leather with silk-screened slipcase, signed by the photographer. An original 3-frame contact strip direct from the negative is pasted into each copy. This copy with additional 4-page photographic order form for archive prints. The publisher's second Stones volume, which sold out quickly, and is now a 'Hall of Fame' title. Fine throughout. From 1965-67, Gered Mankowitz was the photographer, friend and travelling companion of The Rolling Stones. Throughout this time, he captured unique and breathtaking images of the band at work and at play; following an all-night recording session in autumn 1966 and shot at 5.30am on Primrose Hill, his vaseline-distorted photograph for the Stones' LP 'Between The Buttons' is regarded by many as one of the most memorable album covers of all time. For those two years Gered's relationship with the Stones flourished and he had unrivalled access to the band's concerts, recording sessions and hotel rooms. 'Masons Yard to Primrose Hill' captures those unguarded moments; the decadent, classic-era Rolling Stones in the full glory of swinging London.
