Second Draft script for the 1986 film. A vintage script created for internal distribution, four years prior to the film's release, with copied manuscript annotations throughout noting deletions and editorial revisions, copied punch holes, and one manuscript pencil annotation, noting the name "Morrison" on the title page. Based on Mark Medoff's Tony Award-winning 1979 play. A speech teacher at a school for the deaf falls in love with the school's janitor, a deaf woman who has resigned herself to a life of isolation and silence due to her reluctance to learn to communicate with the hearing. Nominated for five Academy Awards, winning one for Best Leading Actress for Marlee Matlin (making Matlin the first deaf recipient of an Academy Award). Set and shot on location in Saint John, New Brunswick. Brown titled wrappers. Title page present, dated May 4, 1982, noted as Second Draft, with credits for screenwriter Mark Medoff. 136 leaves, with last page of text numbered 137.
