Born Helen Louise Leonard in Iowa but raised in Chicago, she made her debut on Tony Pastor's New York music hall stage in 1879, performing in Gilbert and Sullivan operettas as well as other entertainments and became the most famous singer in operettas and musical theater in the United States. In 1904, having difficulties with her voice, she switched to dramatic roles but later returned to musical roles in vaudeville, finally retiring in 1919.

It follows the life of legendary entrepreneur James Buchanan Brady, including his romance with entertainer Lillian Russell, and stars Edward Arnold, Jean Arthur, Cesar Romero and Binnie Barnes. Fascinating story about a fascinating New York gentleman. A very respectable copy in the original but flawed DJ.LOC SSS-02.
