Red cloth, black lettering on front cover and spine, 12mo, 176 pp. This analysis of the British Army at the outbreak of World War I was written by Vivian, pseudonym of Charles Henry Cannell (1882-1947). Cannell served as a British soldier in the Boer War, and afterwards became a journalist and writer. He adopted the pen name Vivian in 1907, and became a prolific author of fantasy novels, publishing under a variety of pseudonyms. Book clean and binding tight with no markings. In a scarce dust jacket that shows just minor chipping, spine lightly sunned. Book condition VG+ in VG DJ. Binding: HB.

No evidence was found of the author's military service, and no synopses were located. No writing or damage, although endpapers are tanned. Presumed First Edition, since only one additional publisher was found (in the States) which is outnumbered about 5-1 as to number of copies located. 182 pp. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Book.
