In this story, two orphan brothers, Hubert and Klaus, live in a castle on a hill. Hubert, twelve years the senior, looks after Klaus in all things. But Klaus has grown tired of being fussed over. To get away he sets off and builds his own big castle, but still can't quite elude the eye of his brother. Steven Kellogg (b.1941) is an author and illustrator of children's books. In 1989 he won the Regina Medal for his "continued, distinguished contribution to children's literature." He has also been the recipient of the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award and the Irma Black Award for Excellence in Children's Literature.
