Grade 7-10. A good Spanish translation of an original English-language title. A rumor of gold is started in the small mountainous region of Sierra Vazia in Brazil. Chaos ensues as the town goes crazy excavating every piece of land imaginable, including the beloved soccer field. Even the priest who preaches against greed is found digging up the church basement. The story is entertaining at times, but its cast of many characters is developed through long-winded passages. There is, however, one nice black-and-white illustration per chapter that captures the humor in the text. Portuguese words sprinkled throughout appear in the glossary.
