Raimundo Silva works as a proofreader in an editorial. While working on a historical text, he decides to place a no instead of a yes. Inadvertently, in altering the text he will never again be a patient and bland man. His act of rebellion leads him to take on the prominent role that, as a man, is his by right. This novel recounts the demolition of the historical wall of Lisbon, and the existence of that ''other'' one that makes it impossible for a man to communicate with others, the wall of loneliness and isolation, permanently brought down by a love fulfilled -the final wall to be demolished. Sin saberlo, ademas de alterar la historia escrita, el conservador Raimundo cambiara para siempre su trayectoria personal. Ya no volvera a ser el sujeto paciente y anodino de siempre, porque su acto de rebeldia le hace asumir el protagonismo que, como hombre -y por tanto ser hegemonico-, le corresponde. En esta novela no solo se relata el derribo del historico cerco de la ciudad de Lisboa, sino tambien del que impide al hombre comunicarse con sus semejantes. Pero el ultimo cerco que se derrumba en este libro es el de la soledad, definitivamente abatido por el amor realizado.
