Review:
“Sears is the ultimate gamer in his very own Minecraft-of-the-mind, and I really have a ball touring it.” ― Caleb Orecchio, The Comics Workbook
“[I]magine Indiana Jones as told by Hayao Miyazaki.” ― Zainab Akhtar, The Guardian
"In terms of non-licensed, oddball series with massive elements of kids comics in play, I prefer Ben Sears to most of the artists working this corner of the funnybook playground." ― Tom Spurgeon, The Comics Reporter
“Sears creates comics that are easy for kids to enjoy with their crisp cartooning, bright colors, and clever sense of humor, but he also includes rich thematic content that makes his books a more substantial read for adults.” ― Oliver Sava, The A.V. Club
“Written in Sears’ signature style, House of the Black Spot is a funny, fast-paced read that will appeal to young readers.” ― Teresa Iaizzo, CM: Canadian Review of Materials
“Sears’ strength is absolutely as a visual storyteller, but there’s enough happening in his engaging characters, involving storylines, and light-fingered explorations of contemporary issues that the books are always something to look forward to, and the latest, House of the Black Spot, is a perfect example.” ― Leonard Pierce, The Comics Journal
“House of the Black Spot has a really good heart. Plus Man and Hank genuinely care whether or not an old lady can afford her rent. They really want to solve the murder mystery and, even in the throes of said murder mystery, they worry about how their cat will get fed.” ― James Ardis, Heavy Feather Review
“While staring and studying every detail going on in every panel, you will think you’re crying. But that’s just your eyeballs drooling. It’s a quick read that all ages will definitely enjoy. I can imagine many school kids doodling Plus Man on their book covers.” ― Rick V, Razorcake
