The books combine very basic learning about an actual kind of environment with physical activities, such as imitating animals that live in that type of environment. For example, Rainforest Workout tells young readers or listeners to “be a frog” and pretend to paddle a boat. The cute photos overlay kids doing the suggested activities with vibrant backgrounds from the relevant environment. The large, colorful, and easy-to-read text is as kid-friendly as the activities. These books could be read at home, but they would be ideal for a classroom setting. The back matter notes the developmental areas the books support and provides a list of ways to extend the activities in the books through song, art, discussion, and additional movement. These notes could be used at home but would be especially useful for classroom teachers. With or without the notes, these appealing books are the perfect read-aloud for active children.
