From Library Journal:
This is one of a series of anthologies from PAJ bringing the U.S. theater-going public good, playable translations of contemporary foreign drama. It is an important undertaking in a rapidly shrinking world of extensive cross-cultural fertilization in the arts. The plays are by novelists of international reputation, and two of them are already fairly well known here, Manuel Puig's Kiss of the Spider Woman and Carlos Fuentes's Orchids in the Moonlight , although the other two, Antonio Skarmeta's Burnin g Patience and Mario Vargas Llosa's Katie and the Hippopotamus , have also had U.S. performances. While this anthology does not pretend to represent a cross-section of Latin American writing, it would have benefited from a bibliography of other plays and available translations. Recommended.
