From the Back Cover:

"Dr. Jeanfreau's book does a great service for a great city, by bringing New Orleans' stone monuments to life. The facts, the details, the notations come together to make this an informative work that would do honor to any library."
-Cyril Lagvanec, history professor, Loyola University, New Orleans

New Orleans possesses a distinctive past and a colorful cast of historical figures. Monuments-located in various parts of the city-memorialize the presence of important individuals and underscore their significance. Though some of these tributes remain in museums and private collections, others stand majestically in public view.
From the famous to the obscure, author Robert Jeanfreau offers a historical overview of more than forty monuments. This pictorial guidebook includes sections on Andrew Jackson, the general who led the American forces to victory during the Battle of New Orleans; Josephine Newcomb, the founder of Newcomb College; and Joan of Arc, the savior and Maid of Orleans. Each work of art reminds both locals and visitors alike that New Orleans can overcome any challenge.
Dr. Robert Jeanfreau practices internal medicine. After he received a BA from Loyola University, he attended LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. Because of his enthusiasm for history, he became a member of the Louisiana Historical Society. Jeanfreau began conducting research for The Story Behind the Stone after passing a statue on Esplanade Avenue dedicated to Charles Gayarr. Jeanfreau lives in Metairie, Louisiana.
