The standard Size of cinematograph film is 13 in. Wide, W in. Thick, and it may be of any length up to ft. Or more each picture is in. High and I in. Wide, and has four perforations at each Side, which are regularly Spaced and continued along both margins of the film throughout its entire length (see Fig. The aperture of the gate or aperture through which the light is emitted is from in. By in. To h in. By in., so that a slight margin of the picture, chiefly at the Sides, is always lost. The perforations engage in the pins of the sprocket wheels, and the film is thereby drawn downwards through the gate at the rate of 6 in. (equal to eight pictures to one movement) for each revolution of the handle.

Theoretically, the handle should be turned at the rate of two revolutions per second, which would bring I ft. Of film, or sixteen pictures, into View during that time. This would be equivalent to 60 ft. In one minute, 120 ft. In two minutes, ft. In twenty minutes, ft. In one hour, and ft. (one mile) in one hour and twenty eight minutes.
