Ghost Riders was the call sign of Company A, of the 158th Assault Helicopter Battalion, attached to the 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile). The story of helicopter action is told in the first person by one of the enlisted crewman who volunteerd for service in Viet Nam. The action revolves around his year of duty as a helicopter crewman supporting the infantry, Marines and Special Forces and the day to day grind of processing the war. It is a personal account of the metamorphosis of a young high school age man evolving into a seasoned combat veteran. The evolution of a boy into a man, like the skin of an onion opened and exposed to life experiences. The story explores the frailty of human life and the reality of war as it is, and not as merely theatrical entertainment, as he initially perceives it.
