Dann Hazel's first novel explores the effects of homosexuality on a southern family. The novel deals with a son, a mother, and a father who build an intricate triangle of deceit and misinformation in an effort to deal with issues they can barely understand.

From the Publisher:
The novel sheds new light on the true effects of the "family values" movement, and calls for a re-evaluation of its definition. At a time when sexual orientation issues are at the forefront of debate, along comes a book which examines not only this issue, but the effects it can have on a family because of the fear and stigma attached to it. The book asserts, once and for all, that no matter who we are, love and understanding are the true "family values."
From the Author:
During the eighteen years I worked with teens, both as a teacher and as a therapist, I encountered a number of young people whose lives were dramatically affected by gay and lesbian issues. But one young man-Marc-affected me most of all. Marc was told his father had died while he was just a baby when, in fact, his parents divorced when his father acknowledged his homosexuality. No one told Marc the truth until he was seventeen. For years, I couldn't shake the memory of Marc's sadness resulting from the lies his family told him. My novel, while not Marc's story, was certainly inspired by it.

Book Description Trade paperback. Presumed first edition/first printing. [6], 261, [1] p. From a review available on line: CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA-By hiding their sexual orientation, homosexuals hurt not only themselves, but also the people they love. Shame, fostered by a society which condemns what it does not understand, can destroy families, friendships, people. The Original Press is pleased to announce the release of Two Paths To Now, a new novel by writer/ activist Dann Hazel. The book explores the effects of homosexuality on a family. Two Paths To Now deals with a son, a mother, and a father who build an intricate triangle of deceit and misinformation in an effort to deal with issues they can barely understand. In their attempt to "protect" their son, Gloria and Erik concoct a story about Erik's tragic death in a fiery automobile accident while Rusty was still a baby. Years later, Rusty finds out that while he is indeed part of a broken family, the circumstances are much different than he was led to believe. He finds his father, but not many answers. All along, Rusty deals with his own problems, and his fear of getting help leads him into more than one potentially tragic situation. Because of Erik's homosexuality and a condemning social atmosphere, Rusty was denied the chance to know his father for most of his childhood. Two Paths To Now sheds new light on the true effects of the "family values" movement, and calls for a re-evaluation of its definition. At a time when sexual orientation issues are at the forefront of debate, along comes a book which examines not only this issue, but the effects it can have on a family because of the fear and stigma attached to it. Two Paths To Now asserts, once and for all, that no matter who we are, love and understanding are the true "family values." Very good. Signed by author. Signed on have title. Cover has slight wear.
