First year junior high English teacher Ryan McNulty, to the amazement of his wife, students and colleagues, adopts a Grade E racing Greyhound reject by the name of Down Under Jones, from none other than dog trainer Maddog McDermutt, in 1962 at Glacier Greyhound Park, in Great Falls, Montana. The dog leads the narrator from one goofy adventure to another, from Montana to Florida, to a rousing climax at Rapid City, South Dakota.
