Dora's Book

Michelle Edwards is a illustrator and author of children's books. Freelance artist in New York, Iowa, and Minnesota, beginning 1983; worked variously as medical clerk, waitress, tour guide, Hebrew school teacher, and printmaker.

She currently resides with her husband and two children in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where she pursues her writing and illustration full time.

Grade 1-3-- When the Minnesota days grow short and winter winds blow cold, an old woman named Dora snuggles under her favorite quilt and thinks about her Grandma Molly and Grandpa Max. One night, she decides to write down her memories of how her grandparents had lived long ago, and by summer she finds that she has compiled enough anecdotes, recipes, and drawings to make a book. With the help of her printer friend, Tom, she turns her reminiscences into Dora's Book , and gives copies to all of her friends. Plot takes a back seat to mood in this informative, affectionate look at the art of book-making by hand; the story's greatest appeal will be to lovers of nostalgia and family sharing.
