The Story of Christianity, a sumptuously produced pictorial history that begins with Abraham and moves forward to Billy Graham, is a spectacular feat in all respects. In less than 250 pages, authors Michael Collins and Matthew A. Price convey a credible and near-comprehensive sense of this tremendously complex religion. The text is sophisticated yet accessible because the book wisely balances intellectual and everyday concerns (summarizing the key points of Thomas Aquinas, for instance, and later describing "Faith and Daily Life in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries"). Michael Collins was ordained into the Catholic church in 1985. After achieving a doctorate in Rome in the early history of the church, he became a consultant to the Vatican committee for the preparation of the Millennium celebrations. He is Director of the Foundation for the Pontifical Institute of Christian Archaeology in Rome, as well as Associate Professor of History at the American University in Rome. He contributes regularly to a wide number of journals, and is a frequent broadcaster on radio. A native of Dublin, Michael has traveled widely -- his favorite hobby -- and speaks several languages. His interests range from tennis and swimming to art, music, and film. He is passionately interested in the music and art of the 16th, 17th, and 18th century. Matthew A. Price is the President of Upland Publishing, a Tennessee-based publisher of Christian books, Bibles, and music. From 1990-1996 he was Vice-President and Publisher of Star Song Communications where he published a Gold Medallion-winning, seven-volume reference work, The Complete Library of Christian Worship. From 1981-1990 he worked for Tyndale House Publishers, becoming Director of Development. Matthew holds a BA in English and an MA in Church History from Wheaton College.
