Book Description Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. ### Selected Poems of LORD TENNYSON by B C Southam 1968 ## ## THIS BOOK: Classified as NEAR FINE. This is the 1968 edition; the first was published in 1964 and reprinted in 1967 and 1968.The mid-blue binding with gold titling along the spine. There is some bumping but no foxing. There may be an odd pencil mark on the text! ## ## FOR several reasons, historical and accidental, Tennyson is the least known of our great poets. Apart from a handful of anthology pieces (his Golden Treasury poems), the bulk of his work remains virtually unexplored by the modern reader. Recent biographical and critical studies have done much in reparation, but this has been more effective at an academic than a popular level. Amongst a wider reading public, Tennyson's reputation has not recovered from the shifts in popular taste and critical fashion over the last sixty years. Even today, he is sneered at for his so-called 'Victorianism' and his poetry quoted in evidence of the Romantic decline. It is prejudice and ignorance of this kind that stands between Tennyson's achievement and its recognition.## #### INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: Please Note. FREE SHIPPING IS UK ONLY.
