About the Author:
Richard Curry is the author of Fatal Light, a PEN/Hemingway Award finalist, and of The Wars of Heaven. He lives in New Mexico.

Through such characters as a miner with black lung disease, a train engineer whose wife has taken her own life, a robber, and a well-meaning eccentric turned circus clown, Currey evokes the loneliness and despair of his native West Virginia during the Depression. These six short stories and a novella are lyrically and powerfully written, flavored with "the worn smell of work and old oil and coal dust." Recommended for readers who appreciate strong characterization and imagery without graphic sex and violence.
