Dean Koontz returns with a run-of-the-mill murder mystery that involves the evil spirit of a man whom Hilary Thomas killed, an act that keeps coming back to terrorize her. Narrator William Dufris fails to capture the dark and gloomy atmosphere so characteristic of KoontzÕs stories. He shows little enthusiasm for the story and his portrayals of the characters do not make them believable. Overall, DufrisÕs narration is both overplayed and stereotypical. While the story is not the most original of KoontzÕs offerings, the audio production is not enhanced by DufrisÕs narration.
