Lightning Never Strikes Twice and Other False Facts - Softcover

Another trivia trove. Moore exposes all manner of things everybody knows, such as the titular wisdom, as fallacies to which he appends the facts. He arranges his offerings in 11 topical chapters (e.g., "Animals," "History," "Science"), but once you turn to one of them, the organization's helter-skelter. To fill out all the pages, he often has to get pretty cute, as witness the fallacy "Blue peter is a venereal disease" (say what?) or the answer to "FALLACY: The Caesar salad was named after Julius Caesar"--to wit, "The Caesar salad was named a long time after Julius Caesar." Hey, that's entertainment, especially if you're a smart but otherwise normal middle-schooler. Ray Olson
