Although many might not recognize the name P.G. Wodehouse, they have inevitably come across his work. Wodehouse was a British humorist who wrote novels, short stories, journalism pieces, and other stuff, becoming extremely popular over a 70 year career. Today he is best known for the Jeeves and Blandings Castle novels and short stories, but he was also a playwright and lyricist who was part author and writer of 15 plays and 250 lyrics. Both the name "Jeeves" and the character of Jeeves have become a common part of the English lexicon, meaning a valet or chauffeur. It is even the inspiration behind the popular search engine Ask Jeeves.

About the Author:
P.G. WODEHOUSE (1881-1975), an England-born journalist and novelist, lived in several different countries before settling in the United States after WWII. In a career spanning over sixty years, he wrote more than ninety books. During the 1920s, Wodehouse collaborated with Broadway legends like Cole Porter and George Gershwin on musicals, and in the 1930s, he expanded his repertoire by writing for motion pictures. He was honored with a knighthood in 1975.

Having joyfully awarded the coveted Earphones Award to two of Wodehouse's comedies (Jeeves Takes Charge and Heavy Weather), I must say that Davidson is not a masterful Wodehouse narrator like Edward Duke or Jeremy Sinden. Davidson has a urbane, British intonation, but his voice is just a shade too sardonic and bored to carry off Wodehouse. His light characterizations of the British male uppercrust come off well, but he's not successful with the women, who seem lifeless.
