International migration is a central feature of the contemporary world, with the political salience of migration strongly increasing in recent years. The fifth edition of this leading text has been substantially revised to provide an up-to-date and comprehensive assessment of the nature, extent and dimensions of international population movements, as well as of their consequences.

This text firmly contextualizes the main issues, theories and history that contribute to the field, accounting for the relationship between globalization and migration. The global economic crisis, increased labour migration, climate change, and technological advancement are expertly covered by this text. In having extensive coverage of regional case studies, and discussing these in comparison with international trends, the authors offer the most systematic analysis of the effects of migration possible.

This text seeks to act as a holistic companion to any student studying international migration. As well as the pedagogical features within the textbook, the book's companion website helps to consolidate learning by providing additional resources, including further case studies, links to external web-pages and a web-only chapter. It can be accessed at: www.age-of-migration.com.

Review:
"This book has become the go-to reference for anyone interested in international migration, offering a comprehensive assessment of theories, data, patterns, and processes of immigration around the world. The fifth edition offers a fresh look at developments in the first decade of the 21st century. It belongs on the bookshelf of any serious student of immigration today." - Douglas S. Massey, Princeton University "The Age of Migration remains the only authoritative text on significant social, political, economic, and cultural trends in the field. The fifth edition is vital to understanding the rapidly transforming processes of international migration. More than ever, this book is de rigueur for introductory and advanced courses." - Immanuel Ness, Brooklyn College, City University of New York "I have relied on this book both as a resource for my own research and a text for my upper-division undergraduate and graduate courses on the politics of immigration. The fifth edition continues the excellent coverage of migration theories and history, the politics of immigration, and issues such as race and ethnicity, while bringing in new material on topics like the impact of climate change." Terri E. Givens, University of Texas at Austin "The Age of Migration, Fifth Edition, once again offers a comprehensive, creative roadmap to the migration field. The authors' historical perspective, regional focus, and policy-orientated approach make this an invaluable resource." - Peggy Levitt, Wellesley College Praise for previous editions: "Widely and deservedly praised as a major achievement ... [the authors] have their own distinctive model of the migratory process but manage at the same time to cover almost every major theme of current migration studies." - Rainer Baubock, Ethnic and Racial Studies "An impressive achievement. The empirical detail is striking, the historical overview comprehensive and the theoretical overview clear and easy to follow even without prior sophisticated knowledge of the theories covered." - Helena Ekelund, Journal of Contemporary Research
